Shetland Times selects Asset Flow

Shetland Times selects Asset Flow for editorial and production workflow.

Shetland Times Ltd, the Isles' leading communications organisation founded in 1872 and publishes the islands' popular weekly newspaper The Shetland Times, has placed an order with Televisual for a complete editorial and production workflow solution with a view to managing content for print, web and mobile platforms

Jimmy Carlyle, IT Manager said: "We were impressed with the amount of functions that you get for the price. The Asset Flow system will allow us to consolidate the different systems that we currently have for handling text, images, and page planning which should reduce cost and complexity."

Using Asset Flow, the weekly publication will be taking advantage of the following key functions

- Text origination
- Page Make-up using Adobe Indesign™
- Image workflow
- Archiving
- Page Planning and Tracking
- Web Workflow

The user interface is browser based for workflow operations and uses web protocols to communicate with the plug-ins for Microsoft Word™ and Adobe InDesign™. This will allow correspondents to contribute either from home, one of the surrounding isles and even the Mainland UK if required.

The administration of the system is also browser based and Brian Johnston, Managing Director of The Shetland Times added, " Being so remote means that, if we need support, then vendors are unable to readily visit us to help sort a particular problem. The system from Televisual is built with web access in mind which is ideal for a company in our location"

Alan Gibson, Managing Director at Televisual said: "We are looking forward to helping The Shetland Times ease the pain of managing content destined for the many different media spaces available today. They were the first weekly newspaper in Scotland to go on-line - back in 1996 - and we are pleased to be helping them expand and improve their services."
