Asset: an overview

Asset is a modular content workflow system designed for publishers. It can provide an entire editorial workflow for both paper and web based publishing, or can complement existing systems to provide specific content workflow solutions for page planning and tracking, picture production, web content management, archiving or e-commerce.

Asset delivers low cost of content ownership through its licensing system. User clients are browser based, and all software components are licensed on the server on which they are installed, with no client license fees. Once you have purchased the software, there is no restriction on the number of users. This even applies to the Asset plug-ins to Adobe InDesign™, Adobe PhotoShop™, OpenOffice™ and Microsoft Word™.

Asset is browser and operating system independent, and supports Internet Explorer™ and Firefox™ on Macintoshes and PC’s. It also supports Safari™ on Macintosh OSX.

All Asset applications are based on a Televisual infrastructure product called Asset PT (Asset Platinum). Asset PT is an XML enabled content workflow framework which is operating system and database independent. It delivers extensive flexibility and scalability, making it equally suitable as a platform for a small single server solution, or a distributed multi-site solution over a VPN. Both the browser based applications, and plug-in enabled third party products can be used over a suitable internet connection, making Asset location independent in operation.

Asset workflow applications are based on two server software modules: Flow Server and Archive Server. Each of these uses the Asset PT Infrastructure. Flow Server deals with content during the publishing cycle, where edits are frequent. Archive Server provides long term digital asset storage.

Each Server module is independent, and does not require the other to function, but when used together they integrate to provide the user with a seamless content management environment

Whilst it can store any type of digital asset, Asset includes workflow processors optimised for text, pictures and pages in a typical paper publishing environment, as well as audio and video for web use. These enable highly automated content acquisition and tracking in most publishing environments.

Every user function of Asset is managed by a security system which provides precise control over the tasks each user can do. Users can belong to one or more groups which are also subject to the security system, simplifying management of large numbers of users and publications.
