IStructure

IStructure is a plug-in to Adobe Acrobat™ 7 or later to structure and extract text and images from Adobe Acrobat™ PDF files into Asset Flow Server or Archive Server from which it can be subsequently exported as XML if required..

As part of the Asset family, IStructure integrates into its content management workflow. It can extract content into Flow Server or Archive Server, providing a highly productive method re-purposing legacy DTP material for web publishing, archiving, or third party syndication.

IStructure includes a powerful learning mode that allows an operator to train the programme to recognise the layout features that characterise structure elements such as Headlines, By-lines, picture captions etc., and classify these automatically. Once trained, text extraction becomes highly productive.

When text is re-purposed from DTP programmes for use in other applications, artefacts such as incorrect hyphenation or forced line breaks often occur. IStructure includes an editor that identifies these problems and allows the operator to correct them. There is also a character conversion utility to map accented characters, ligatures and symbols to alternative characters or replace them. This allows accurate text extraction from most languages, and can, for example, replace the symbol ∞ with the word infinity.

Pictures can also be extracted from PDF files, automatically resized, and converted from CMYK to RGB JPEG for web publication.

A powerful structure wizard makes the creation and management of learning profiles and character maps simple, even for hundreds of publications in dozens of languages.

IStructure is a plug-in to Adobe Acrobat™ 7 or later on PC’s running Microsoft Windows XP™. IStructure requires the full Adobe Acrobat™ software suite. It will not work with Adobe Acrobat™ Reader.
