Newspapers & MagazinesAsset is a modular content workflow system designed for publishers. It can provide an entire editorial workflow for both paper and web based publishing, or can complement existing systems to provide specific content workflow solutions for page planning & tracking, copy workflow, picture production, web content management, archiving or e-commerce. Asset delivers low cost of content ownership through its unique licensing system. User clients are browser based, and all software components are licensed on the server on which they are installed, with no client license fees. Once you have purchased the software, there is no restriction on the number of users. This even applies to the Asset plug-ins to standard packages such as Adobe InDesign™, Adobe Photoshop™, Adobe Acrobat™, Microsoft Word™ and OpenOffice™. Asset is browser and operating system independent, and supports Internet Explorer™, Firefox™ and Safari™. All Asset applications are based on a Televisual infrastructure product called Asset PT (Asset Platinum). Asset PT is an XML enabled content workflow framework which is operating system and database independent. It delivers extensive flexibility and scalability, making it equally suitable as a platform for a small single server solution, or a distributed multi-site solution over a VPN or the internet. Asset workflow applications are based on three server software modules: Page Server, Flow Server and Archive Server. Page Server deals with edition planning and production tracking. Flow Server handles content during the publishing cycle, where edits are frequent. Archive Server provides long term digital asset storage. Each Server module is independent, and does not require the other to function, but when used together they integrate to provide the user with a seamless content management environment. The browser based clients are complemented by a series of plug-ins for common third party applications used in publishing. These plug-ins interact with the database of the appropriate Asset Server to manage content from within the third party application. The plug-ins for Microsoft Word™ and OpenOffice™ enable copy preparation and management from these packages fully integrated with Flow Server, preserving the article locking and version control provided by it. The plug-in for Adobe Photoshop™ allows its use for editing images under the control of the Flow Server database. The plug-ins for Adobe InDesign™ allow access to Page Server for page management and tracking from within Adobe InDesign™, and to Flow Server for content placement and editing on the page, again preserving the article locking and version control provided by Flow Server. The plug-in for Adobe Acrobat™ is used to extract structured content from unstructured Adobe Acrobat PDF files from legacy systems allowing re-use of the content in Flow server or Archive Server. Every function of Asset is managed by a security system which provides precise control over the tasks and access available to each user. Users can belong to one or more groups which are also subject to the security system, simplifying management of large numbers of users and publications. Related Articles of Interest
